In October 2022 the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA) announced the availability of travel scholarships to qualified patient advocate applicants who wanted to attend the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium 2022 (SABCS22) in person. LBCA was pleased to award scholarships to Megan-Claire Chase, Valerie Fraser, and Julia Katherine Levine.

Each of the women receiving a scholarship was asked to share their experiences and give feedback about SABCS22 with LBCA. Following are portions of each of the articles they wrote with a link to their full stories.

Megan-Claire Chase

I am thrilled that I got to attend the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium 2022 (SABCS22) as both a survivor and patient advocate. There’s something empowering, uplifting, and a little overwhelming about being surrounded by all things breast cancer – providers, researchers, pharma, nonprofits, survivors, metastatic patients, and patient advocates. Valerie Fraser

SABCS2022 was chock full of some amazing presentations and follow-up research data that will most surely translate into the clinic and impact many patients. It was certainly a difficult task to pick and choose which sessions to attend over the four days of the conference, and the Year In Review on Saturday was something not to be missed! I know I’m just scratching the surface here with highlights from two sessions  from among the many outstanding talks and poster discussions that took place this year. Julia Katherine Levine

Thank you to LBCA for providing a travel grant for me to attend SABCS22. This was my third time attending in person and after two years of attending by Zoom, it was great to go again in person. The third time is a charm, and it was much less overwhelming but even busier than in the past. Meeting some LBCA advocates and Scientific Advisory Board members in person for the first time and reconnecting with other friends is the best part. Networking and meeting new lobular patients, advocates, researchers, young investigators and talking about LBCA and ILC is very rewarding.
