Local Advocacy Teams

LBCA launched the Local Advocacy Team (LAT) initiative to provide opportunities for individuals with lobular breast cancer living in the same geographic area in the US to connect with one another and engage in in-person ILC awareness raising activities.

LBCA LAT Coordinators Kathleen Moss and Melissa Smicker host monthly Zoom meetings. Anyone interested in local advocacy-whether you have an official team, want to start one or want to conduct local advocacy individually-all are welcome to join our monthly meetings to share tips, successes and challenges.  Three LATs (below) have launched since 2024.

Lobular Awareness Network of South Carolina

Launched in April of 2024, this LAT serves South Carolina and is led by organizers and advocates Minnie Campolong and Melanie Trimble.  LBCA Executive Director, Laurie Hutcheson and Local Advocacy Team Coordinator Kathleen Moss interviewed Minnie and Melanie to learn about the goals of their new LAT.  Click on the video to watch the interview.

Each Local Advocacy Team consists of a minimum of two individual LBCA volunteers who share a primary common purpose to further LBCA’s mission within the Local Advocacy Team’s geographic area through advocacy, developing social connections, planning educational events and helping LBCA to identify fundraising opportunities.  LATs are intended to provide individuals with lobular breast cancer the opportunity to find others nearby with ILC for a sense of community and, as volunteers, to conduct in-person activities to advocate at a local level in support of LBCA”s mission:

  • raise awareness about ILC
  • share information about ILC
  • promote ILC research
  • assist LBCA in identifying potential donors, sponsors, and fundraising opportunities and garner support for LBCA.

LAT Ambassadors and others interested in conducting local advocacy attend monthly meetings, virtually, with the LBCA LAT Coordinator.  For more information on how to form a new LAT or conduct local advocacy with others near you, email the LAT Coordinator at LATadmin@lbca.org.
