LBCA in partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is excited to award its two new AACR-Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance – Deborah Mueller Foundation Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Innovation and Discovery Grant awards. The two recipients of these two one-year $50,000 ILC research grants will focus one, on studying ex vivo human ILC cultures to develop personalized ILC treatments and the other on comprehensive liquid biopsies to decipher lobular breast cancer metastasis. These are the first two of three ILC research grants that were funded this year by the Deborah Mueller Foundation in memory of LBCA board member Deborah Mueller who passed away precipitously in early 2023 from metastatic lobular breast cancer.
Also, in July, LBCA will issue another ILC grant solicitation for ILC research grants and offer two ILC research grants of $50K each. These will be offered in partnership with the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and two generous partners. One will be the third grant made in memory of Deborah Mueller and the other will be made in honor of Sarah Bieze.
Deborah’s widow, Dr. John Doski and his daughters have pledged their ongoing support for LBCA in Deb’s memory and in keeping with her wishes. She was incredibly dedicated to the mission work of LBCA, recalls John. He notes that she was passionately committed to helping to raise awareness of lobular breast cancer and promoting more ILC research. Not only was she a huge supporter of LBCA and our work but is recalled for all the good that she did and love that she spread as the “master surgeon, inspirational leader, mentor and an amazing wife and mother that she was.” Watch John’s tribute to and reminiscence of Deb below.
