Advocate Chat – Learning More About Cancer Data

A Conversation with Dr. Nadia Howlader from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Surveillance Research Program

On September 21, 2022, the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA) held the latest installment of its Advocate Chat series titled How We Know What We Know About Cancer Data: A Conversation with Dr. Nadia Howlader, NCI Surveillance Research Program.

During the virtual event, Dr. Howlader provided an overview of how cancer data is collected in the US, who uses the data and how they use it, and tools that are available to make the data public.

As a result of the Advocate Chat, LBCA will be working with NCI to get updated facts and figures on invasive lobular carcinoma in addition to other data points that have not yet been available on subtypes from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database.

The LBCA’s Advocate Chat series provides people with a way to learn more about different aspects of patient advocacy and to network with other patient advocates. Advocate Chats are organized with up to 30 minutes of presentation followed by a live question and answer session with the presenter, which is not recorded.

Watch the Advocate Chat and view the slides.
