Advocacy in Action: Alliance for Breast Cancer Policy meeting and Holiday Music CD Sales benefitting LBCA

This month’s advocacy in action showcases the efforts of two of LBCA’s dedicated advocates:

Brenda Sulick at the Alliance for Breast Cancer Policy Meeting

In late October, Brenda Sulick attended the Alliance for Breast Cancer Policy Meeting representing LBCA. The Alliance is a coalition of over 25 advocacy groups, patients, and experts working together for federal policy changes to improve breast cancer care by removing financial barriers to screening/treatment, advancing research, and improving data on metastatic breast cancer. The meeting started with a discussion on Capitol Hill with Debbie Dingell (D- MI 06) and Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX 24), followed by a panel of Alliance organizations and breast cancer survivors. Participants also broke into groups and met with several Congressional offices to discuss the Access to Breast Cancer Diagnosis Act (ABCD). On Brenda’s team were two consultants supporting the Alliance who were interested in her breast cancer story. She explained what ILC is and its needs for better imaging, specific treatments and more research. Most had never heard of ILC. Participants also met with staff from the following congressional offices (most were members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee): Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX 33), Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA 16),Rep. Kat Cammack (F-FL 03), Rep. Lori Trahan (D-MA 03), Rep. Cliff Benz (R-OR 02). Brenda had a great day advocating for awareness of ILC!

LBCA Board Member, Dr. Kathy Krantz, holiday music CD benefiting LBCA

In November, LBCA Board member Dr. Kathy Krantz published a music CD of holiday harp music, with proceeds benefitting LBCA. Kathy plays the folk harp and sings with Jersey Sound, an award-winning a cappella chorus of Sweet Adelines International. In the past Kathy and her group have held concerts called Hope in Harmony benefits to raise money for LBCA in recognition of October 15th Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

We are thankful to both Kathy and Brenda for their passionate support of LBCA!
