A Message from LBCA’s Executive Director

Laurie Hutcheson, Executive Director

I am so happy to be LBCA’s new Executive Director and grateful to be able to help move this incredible organization created by Leigh Pate forward. Since 2017, LBCA has dramatically expanded the educational and research advocacy resources on our website. Leigh and our scientific advisory board members have been featured speakers at numerous breast cancer symposiums, interest in ILC research has grown exponentially, and the number of clinical trials focusing on ILC has tripled worldwide. It is due to Leigh, the other founding patient advocates and our scientific advisors promoting education, partnering with other organizations and advocating so fervently for ILC research that we are now at a point where we can accelerate and elevate our educational efforts, support even more research advocacy, engage more clinicians and researchers in dialogue, and fund research.

Because of these advances, I am excited to share our new mission, vision and goal statements:

Our Mission: As the only organization in the US dedicated to Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer (ILC), LBCA’s mission is:

to make all who are touched by ILC aware of its unique characteristics and the critical need for more ILC research, to be the go-to source for information on ILC studies, clinical trials and educational tools, to foster partnerships among patients, scientists, clinicians and breast cancer organizations to increase dialogue about ILC and research advocacy, and to fund vital ILC research.

Our Vision: A world in which lobular breast cancer is found early, treated effectively, and eradicated permanently.

LBCA is guided by five primary goals:

  1. Raise Awareness and Educate about ILC
  2. Be the Go-to Source for ILC Research Findings and Information about ILC Treatment
  3. Support ILC Patient Research Advocacy
  4. Cultivate Alliances Among US and International Breast Cancer Advocacy Organizations
  5. Fund and Advance ILC Research

Please check our website as we are rolling out new changes regularly, including a blog by our scientific advisors, more stories from patients with ILC, and research advocate networking. As always, please consider making a donation to help achieve our mission and succeed in our vision.
