LBCA’s Michigan ILC Local Advocacy Team (LAT) leaders Ciara Mohan Gustafson and Valerie Fraser recently joined us to share what inspired them to turn their passion for ILC advocacy into local action. Ciara’s experience with early-stage ILC and Valerie’s experience living with metastatic ILC brought them together around a shared purpose and vision for increasing awareness of the challenges of ILC everywhere including their own communities.

Their plans include building a grassroots network of ILC advocates in Michigan, making high-impact local connections, and sharing LBCA’s educational materials to expand understanding of ILC and support the need for more ILC-specific research funding. They also explained how LBCA’s extensive, scientifically vetted resources have been invaluable in preparing them to educate and connect with others and they look forward to encouraging their peers to do the same.
