Please join us for the third webinar in a series focused on the emerging field of liquid biopsy and where the research is on use with patients diagnosed with ILC. This third session will focus on the use of these tools in the care of individuals living with a metastatic ILC diagnosis. We will hear from clinicians and researchers in the field who are focusing on this consistently evolving field.
LBCA Scientific Advisory Board Members, Dr. Daniel Stover, breast medical oncologist, and Dr. Rita Mukhtar, breast surgical oncologist will share where the current research stands, what is currently standard of care, and where their own research on this topic is focused in improving the monitoring of metastatic ILC. Dr. Carolina Reduzzi, cancer biology researcher and prior LBCA grant recipient, will share about her work on circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and what she is learning about this in the context of metastatic ILC. LBCA Patient Advocate Advisory Board Member Amy Russell-Parliman, will share the patient’s perspective on the importance of research in this field and moderate the question and answer session at this event. Dr. Rita Mukhtar – Professor of Clinical Surgery·University of California, San Francisco
Dr. Rita Mukhtar is a Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and is a fellowship trained breast surgical oncologist with a research focus on ILC. Her work is currently supported by the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, and METAvivor. In addition to her clinical practice in breast surgical oncology, Dr. Mukhtar leads the Lobular Breast Cancer Research Program at UCSF and is the national PI for the PLUMB study, a prospective registry study evaluating serial ctDNA in patients with metastatic ILC.
Dr. Carolina Reduzzi – Assistant Professor of Cancer Biology Research in Medicine and Director of the Cristofanilli CTC laboratory·Weill Cornell Medicine
Dr. Carolina Reduzzi is an Assistant Professor of Cancer Biology Research in Medicine and Director of the Liquid Biopsy Platform and Cristofanilli CTC laboratory at Weill Cornell Medicine. With more than a decade of experience studying circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) across multiple solid tumors, her work is focused on developing novel liquid biopsy-based pipelines and biomarkers to advance precision oncology.
Amy Russell-Parliman – LBCA Patient Advocate Advisory Board member
Amy Russell-Parliman, MHA, serves as a director of diagnostic imaging for a health system in upstate New York, but her accent is all Georgia. After being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in 2014, Amy faced a metastatic lobular invasive carcinoma diagnosis in 2019. Since then, her advocacy efforts have included serving in volunteer roles with Project Life, LBCA, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance, and SurvivingBreastCancer.org. She completed Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s Hear My Voice program, is a Project Lead Graduate, and has been an advocate on DOD grants.

Dr. Daniel Stover is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology and Department of Biomedical Informatics at Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research focus is clinical computational oncology, which is the application of computational approaches to leverage the immense available and potential data from tumor profiling to improve outcomes for patients with cancer. Specifically, Dr. Stover’s lab develops and implements ‘big data’ solutions to clinical challenges in breast cancer.
