Cleveland Breast Cancer Summit Focuses on Lobular Breast Cancer

On August 25, 2023, the Cleveland Clinic presented the 7th Annual Cleveland Breast Cancer Summit: Collaborating for a Cure, a live educational multi-disciplinary summit that focused on the up-to-date reviews and treatment options for lobular breast cancer. The event was designed for practicing physicians and other practicing health care providers in oncology, surgery, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology and women’s health.

Planning committee members included Machelle Moeller, CNP, and Megan Kruse, MD, from the Department of Hematology/ Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Kruse, a member of the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA) Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), also presented on the topic of Neoadjuvant (before surgery) and Adjuvant (after surgery) Treatment Considerations of Lobular Breast Cancer.

Other members of LBCA’s SAB also served as guest faculty for the learning event:

  • Dr. Gary Ulaner discussed Imaging Challenges of Lobular Breast Cancer,
  • Dr. Rita Mukhtar presented on Surgical Management of Invasive Lobular Cancer,
  • and Dr. Fresia Pareja spoke about Pathologic Features of Invasive Lobular Cancer.

Additional topics included Implant Based Breast Reconstruction and Radiation Therapy; Nuances of Radiation Treatment for Lobular Breast Cancer; Lobular Cancer Genetics and Contralateral Risk; Management of Metastatic Lobular Breast Cancer; and a patient’s perspective on living with invasive lobular carcinoma.
