There are two important upcoming events hosted by the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) of which LBCA is a part, and an opportunity to seek LBCA support to attend:
NBCC’s Advocate Leadership Summit is this May 3-5, 2025 in Washington, D.C., followed by the NBCC Lobby Day on May 6. This Summit is an annual gathering of breast cancer research advocates seeking to learn about the latest in breast cancer research and NBCC’s breast cancer research projects and to learn new advocacy skills. Attendees typically include breast cancer survivors, those living with breast cancer, and others who are affected by breast cancer. For lobby day, advocates split up and join the NBCC team leader in their state to go meet with their senators and representatives about the NBCC policy agenda that LBCA supports. Participation in the lobby day is optional for grant recipients, it is led by NBCC leaders (no prior lobbying experience is necessary) and targets the NBCC policy agenda, which is important to sustaining breast cancer funding at the federal level. More information can be found here.
LBCA is offering 2 travel scholarship grants for advocates interested in ILC education and research to attend the NBCC Advocate Leadership Summit. Each travel scholarship will be a maximum of $1,500 USD and requires the submission of requested deliverables and documentation of expenses incurred before reimbursement will be released. Applications can be submitted here and will be accepted through March 9, 2025.
NBCC 2025 Project LEAD, July 22-August 1, 2025 is accepting applications! Project LEAD is the premier science and research advocacy training for breast cancer advocates offered annually by NBCC in La Jolla, CA. To learn more about this program, please click here. Applications are due by April 25, 2025 and can be submitted here. LBCA is able to support the participation of a limited number of ILC advocates each year, if accepted into the program. All applications to the program should be submitted directly to NBCC for review. Applicants should reach out to LBCA regarding available attendance support after they have been accepted.
