LBCA Welcomes 2 New Scientific Advisory Board Members: Dr. David Lim and Dr. Pooja Advani

The LBCA Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) is an internationally renowned group of clinicians and scientists with expertise in invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) research. They are passionately committed to LBCA’s mission, vision, and goals and are a critical resource for LBCA helping us to ensure that all information developed and shared is current, relevant, and accurate.  LBCA is excited to welcome Dr. Lin and Dr. Advani.

Dr. David Lim is a breast surgical oncologist and Medical Director of the Henrietta Banting Breast Centre at Women’s College Hospital. He is Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at University of Toronto, with cross-appointments at the Institute of Medical Science (IMS) and Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME). He is Research Director of the University of Toronto Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program. His areas of research focus include treatment and outcomes for lobular breast cancer.. His lobular breast cancer research is supported by a 2024 Terry Fox Research Institute New Investigator Award, a 2024 Conquer Cancer-Breast Cancer Research Foundation® Career Development Award, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Breast Cancer Canada, Canadian Society of Surgical Oncology and the Ontario Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security.  He sits on the Critical Writing, Editing, and Review Committee of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Scientific Planning Committee of the Society for Surgical Oncology. Dr. Lim has worked with LBCA and supported lobular breast cancer awareness and advocacy efforts in Canada, including speaking at the 2024 and 2025 Global Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day events at the TMX Stock Exchange in Toronto.

Dr. Pooja Advani is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Consultant at Mayo Clinic. She earned her medical degree in Mumbai, India and completed her residency at the State University of New York. She is a graduate of the Mayo Clinic Hematology and Oncology Fellowship program where she also served as the Chief Fellow. She is a breast medical oncologist and the Director of the Robert and Monica Jacoby Center for Breast Health at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville. Her current research interests are centered on understanding and leveraging the molecular underpinnings of cancer biology to help develop novel therapeutics and biomarkers to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Advani has been a recipient of a number of grant funding in support of her research interests including National Institute of Health, Department of Defense and Florida Dept. of Health funding. She also serves as the principal investigator of several Phase II/III breast cancer clinical trials including investigator-initiated trials. She has won several awards recognizing her commitment to quality patient care and patient experience.
