The Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA) is thrilled to be partnering with the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance in July for its Here All Year campaign. The campaign explores a new topic around metastatic breast cancer each month and asks readers to share the information and resources on their social media channels. This month’s focus is metastatic invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC).
Lisa Laudico, senior host and producer of Our MBC Life Podcast and MBCA Awareness Task Force chair, said, “The Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance’s Here All Year campaign was initiated by the late patient advocate Katherine O’Brien to highlight the many different issues facing individuals living with metastatic breast cancer every month of the year, not just during National Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. We were so happy to work closely with the team at the LBCA to amplify the specific and unique issues facing those living with lobular breast cancer ranging from diagnostic challenges, research, and treatment needs. This campaign focused on lobular breast cancer moves the ball far in dispelling myths and giving individuals access to current research and initiatives that can help improve outcomes.”
LBCA’s Lead Research Advocate and Publications Curator Julia Katherine Levine spearheaded the efforts to develop and vet with LBCA’s Scientific Advisory Board the detailed information on metastatic ILC that is being shared over the month. Weekly topics include the potential for ILC to metastasize to unusual sites, the imaging challenges of metastatic ILC, existing clinical trials and the challenges that exist in studying the disease, and how biomarkers and inherited mutations can help in the targeting of treatments for individuals with metastatic ILC.
Julia commented, “I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance to help to bring the most current available information about metastatic lobular breast cancer to a wider audience in order for patients, advocates, and clinicians to better understand the differences and challenges in metastatic ILC. I hope this campaign will also highlight the need for more research into lobular breast cancer to help guide diagnosis and treatment.”
Also included each week are videos featuring women with metastatic ILC. Ann Camden, Natalia Padron, Jen Heatherly, and Kris Blake all share their stories of living with metastatic ILC.
