LBCA encourages ILC patients to participate in breast cancer clinical trials to help ensure that there is sufficient participation by those with ILC to enable the analysis of not only how a treatment works on common ductal carcinoma tumors, but how it affects lobular breast cancer tumors. It is only in this way that current standards of breast cancer treatment might be improved to better address the unique needs of those with ILC. 

LBCA has a webpage to share information about clinical trials that focus on ILC where we routinely post updates about new clinical trials, trials that are still recruiting and published studies of the results of ILC-focused clinical trials when available. There is also information and video about why clinical trials are important in breast cancer research and why more trials need to include patients with ILC. 

LBCA Scientific Advisory Board chair Dr. Jason Mouabbi has an open ILC-focused clinical trial:

• IvoLoC Trial: A Phase II Trial Evaluating the Efficacy of Ivonescimab in Metastatic Endocrine Refractory HR-positive HER2-negative or Triple Negative Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (NCT07229417) 

This Phase II treatment study is one of the first in the US that focuses specifically on metastatic invasive lobular carcinoma, and on the potential reasons and explanations for why some patients’ ILC lesions become resistant to endocrine therapy. In addition to evaluating a potential new therapy, the study includes detailed molecular analyses that may help identify, and thus in the future, predict, which patients are most likely to respond well to the therapy. It is expected that the results of this trial will contribute to the development of more personalized treatment approaches for people living with metastatic ILC.
